Born in Nagasaki City in 1943, exposed to the atomic bomb at the age of 2. Graduated from Nagasaki University School of Medicine in 1968. After serving as an assistant in the Department of Pathology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, and an assistant, lecturer, and assistant professor in the Pathophysiology Department of the Atomic Bomb Disease Research Institute (JAERI Pathology), he became a professor of pathology at JAERI in 1987. He retired from Nagasaki University in March 2009. April: Director of Nagasaki Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center (current position). He is a professor emeritus at Nagasaki University.
